The bike is shaping up!

Welded up the frame and added the axles, springer front end and Fat Boy wheels and tires. I need to swap out the bearings to 3/4" and get new neck cup bearings. needless to say, I'm pretty stoked with the look of the bike so far.

Here are some pics of the bike progress and a workbench I built yesterday. The frame is nearly ready for welding, but I have to fit the engine first. On certain year Sportsters, including mine, there is a flat underside of the down tube for the rear rocker cover to slide under. Without the flat side there is no clearance. The only way to fit the engine with a led sled hard tail is to heat up the tube and pound it flat. I will be beating on the frame tomorrow, and with any luck will have it welded on Saturday.
The workbench is awesome and is working quite well as a tire rack also. I left the center open to accommodate a shop stool (I like to work sitting down). The peg board will be nice for getting my hand tools out and accessible.

Tear down progress. It took me the better part of Columbus Day, but the bike is completely disassembled. I took the evening tonight to put in some fluorescent lighting so I can see my welds and because I prefer A LOT of light (4 8' T12 bulbs!). So far, so good.

The BOBBER

Have a 95 sportster xlh upgraded to a 1200 custom with 96 tins. Will be welding on a hardtail from led sled customs, 4 under springer front end, and adding a 200mm rear tire from a 2008 fatboy, the front will also be from a fatboy and is a 150mm---this will be a very FAT looking bobber. I got the jack the other day and will post pictures as I progress. Should look something like the second bike, with a springer front and a fatter front tire.

Wheels On!

Wheels look great. Keep in mind that the engine will drop the front end a bit and I do plan on removing one coil from the front spring. I need to bring the axle 1/4 inch to the center, and even then I'll need to trim some of the wheel well to avoid tire rub. Luckily I won't need tubs, just some sheet metal. I do plan on replacing the majority of both rear quarter panels. This will be a solid car and have a slight slant forward. The rear tires from the back look awesome because you don't see this wide of a tire on a stock looking car very often.

Falcon Progress

I've been working a lot on the car late at night and thought I'd throw some pictures up. I've stripped quite a bit of paint, rust and dirt off the side and bottom of the car. I've also started to put the rubberized undercoating on the car. The major accomplishmnet has been the measuring, welding, cutting and assembling involved with installing the 4 link rear suspension. You wouldn't believe the trouble it was to cut out the bushings in the front leaf spring pockets. Now that it is all assembled I can see that the brackets on the axle housing are spot on and the pinion angle is within range. Last night I rebuilt the brakes and put the wheels and tires on. I need to cut out 1,4 of an inch from the lip on the inside of the wheel well for proper clearance, but the wheels tuck right into the welss perfectly. After the cutting and minor panhard bar adjustment I'll post pics of the new brakes and tires installed. It looks amazing! At the bottom you can see my little apprentice--he's the future Mikey Tuttle of my shop! Kidding--he did an awesome job sweeping up the dust and keeping me company.
